Witham: Scrap yards subject to police spot checks
Police have been arriving unannounced at scrap metal dealers in an attempt to clamp down on criminal activity.
Officers, along with representatives from Trading Standards, have been carrying out on-the-spot checks at dealers across the county.
Dealers have been handed written warnings for inaccurate weighbridges and inadequate record-keeping.
One of the businesses raided on Monday, D&P Metals, on the Eastways Industrial Estate in Witham, was issued with a warning by police for not keeping proper records.
