Train users got into arguments with each other after staff shortages forced a ticket office to remain closed.

The staffed ticket office at Witham rail station did not open until 2.30pm on Saturday due to staff illness, forcing customers to queue at the station’s two machines instead.

But some users complained of having to pay higher fares because because group discounts were not available.
