Braintree: Honywood hope for £30m rebuild by 2020

School leaders hope ambitious £30million plans to rebuild an academy will be complete by 2020.

Honywood Community Science School is currently looking for a number of benefactors to support the plans and invest in the futures of its pupils.

The rebuild itself is expected to take five years, including a year to fine tune the plans.

It will be done in either four or five stages, ensuring temporary classrooms do not have to be used and students are only moved once.

Deputy headteacher Mark Williams said: “The buildings are over 40 years old and were built for 200 people, we now have 1050.

“We have a 21st century curriculumn but 1960s buildings and it doesn’t work."

If anyone can do it Honywood can. It's an amazing, innovative school that my children have been truly lucky to attend. The staff are wonderful and the Head is enlightened and dedicated.

Good luck with their plans.
