An award to celebrate selflessness and commitment has been set up in memory of a much-loved volunteer who died of cancer last year.

Helen Temperley, 38, a longstanding member of Witham Amateur Operatic Society and founder committee member of WOW, died in May.

The Helen Temperley Memorial Trophy has been set-up to reward youngsters who show the same dedication to the society.

Michael Watling, 18, was the first recipient of the award, which was presented during WOW’s production of The Boy Friend last month.

Helen’s husband Blake, 39, and eldest daughter Lily presented the award to Michael in front of an audience of 250 people.
