Teachers and pupils dressed up as their favourite literary characters to celebrate World Book Day.

Fancy dress could be seen in corridors and classrooms at Tabor Academy, in Panfield Lane, Braintree,yesterday.

Among the costumes, the entire science department dressed up as characters from Alice in Wonderland, while the technology department came into school as detectives, including Miss Marple and Columbo.

English teacher Ruth Woodcock said: “It was a fabulous day. We went off-timetable with our Key Stage Three classes so we could do some reading and writing tasks.

“We introduced them to some new authors and did cake sales and sweet sales, raising over £200 for Book Aid International.”
