A driver was left badly shaken after a ball was thrown at her car as she passed under a bridge.

The car, driven by a woman from Witham, was struck as she drove along the A138 Chelmer Road, in Chelmsford, shortly before 6.30pm yesterday.

Three teenagers were arrested on suspicion of endangering road users.

Following the incident, the driver stopped nearby and immediately reported the incident to police.

She said she had seen three youths leaning over the bridge parapet and throwing items at vehicles.

The driver’s Audi car was not damaged.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “A police search was carried out and two teenage boys and a teenage girl were arrested on suspicion of endangering road users.”

A 14-year-old boy from Chelmsford has been bailed until March 28 pending further enquiries.

A 15-year-old boy from Braintree and a 13-year-old girl from Chelmsford were both questioned but later released without charge.

Not long ago, Essex Police were saying that they would treat these cases as attempted murder. Empty words...?
