Essex: Ryanair to cut jobs at Stansted over fee row

Ryanair plans to cut its flights at Stansted Airport in a row over charges
More than 1,000 people face losing their jobs after Ryanair announced plans to cut its flights at Stansted Airport.
It is in reaction to former airport owner Ferrovial’s decision to increase its fees by six per cent from next month Ryanair plans to cut 170 flights on 43 routes, losing 1.1million passengers and more than 1,100 jobs.
It said it had planned to increase its operation from April but claims the price hikes were “unwarranted and unjustified” after prices had already been doubled in the past six years.
But the Civil Aviation Authority said the airport’s fees of £7.65 per passenger were within the price cap of £7.68.
A spokesman for Manchester Airports Group, which bought the airport last week, said: "As part of our plans to grow passenger volume at Stansted over the short, medium and long term, we will continuously engage with all of the airlines that operate at Stansted, many of which are already valued customers of ours."
