Sean Marks' headed goal late in the game secured all three points for Braintree Town as they beat Gateshead 2-1.

In a game played at Hartlepool United's Victoria Park ground, the Iron secured their third win on the bounce in Blue Square Bet Premier after victories against Grimsby Town and Luton Town.

Dean Wells' well-placed shot into the Gateshead goal set Braintree up in the tenth minute and they once again went on to convert their lead into three points.

However, it looked as if they would have to only settle for one with five minutes to go.

Gateshead's Ben Everson had fired in a late equaliser after the Iron had held the lead for 75 minutes, but Marks proved the visitors' hero almost immediately.

He got in front of home keeper Adam Bartlett to head in Ryan Peters' 86th minute cross to restore the advantage and make it a happy trip home for the travelling fans.

The three points carried Braintree up to 13th in the table, nine points clear of the relagation zone and to within six points of the 50 point target that boss Alan Devonshire feels will guarantee their safety in the premier division this year.
