After two years and two babies, Lucy Porter is back on the comedy circuit with her new show People Person.

Lucy, 40, said: “It was an enforced two-year maternity leave, but it is nice to be back, even if it involves lots of standing on cold train platforms.

“As much as it has been an amazing two years, my ego needed a run out and as a deeply selfish person I like a bit of attention.”

Although she tried to avoid focusing on her new arrivals in her latest show, Lucy found she could not avoid the topic.

“It’s all about friendship and how I met my new best friend, but it’s also about motherhood, daytime TV and online shopping.

“There’s all kinds of stuff because that’s the nature of my brain - the show is all-encompassing.

“I tried to steer away from motherhood because people will have got babysitters so they can come along, so I thought they won’t want to hear about that.

“But then I realised that’s what I have been doing for the last two years.”

Her current UK tour is taking place at a more relaxed pace - Lucy typically spends a couple of nights a week on-the-road before returning home, rather than being away for months on end.

She said: “I just take things a bit less seriously, because when you have a baby you feel like you have stared death in the face.

“The break did me good because I’ve been doing comedy for the last 15 years.

“When you are a touring comedian you just go from show to show, so you don’t really get any ‘real-life experience’.

“Having the chance to watch other stand-ups as an audience member revived my love of comedy.”
