Braintree: I lost my mum, my job and now my home too?

Braintree: I lost my mum, my job and now my home too? Braintree: I lost my mum, my job and now my home too?

A grieving daughter who was told to pay rent using her dead mother’s account may now become homeless within months.

Pennie Barnard and her brother Wayne battled Greenfields Community Housing about attempts to move them out of the family home in the weeks following their mother Jackie’s death.

They received a letter from Greenfields just three days after she died on April 23 asking for an appointment to discuss the tenancy after her funeral.

At the meeting on May 8, they were told the three bedroom house in Aetheric Road, Braintree, was under-occupied and it would eventually need to be given to a family.

Three days later, Greenfields sent a letter addressed to the late Ms Barnard with a new rent payment card in her name for her children to use.

The siblings complained and the housing association apologised for distress caused and said they could stay at the house, which the pair claim they have lived in for at least 25 years.

Wayne was given the tenancy, because Greenfields dispute how long Pennie had lived there, but is now looking to downsize and will be given band A priority.

But his sister has been told she will be in band C.
