Police are urging car owners to make sure their vehicles are locked after a spate of recent thefts.

Inspector Paul Davey said: “We are having numerous thefts from motor vehicles at the moment, and lots are not even locked.

“You would think in this day and age things like this don’t happen, but we would ask people to make sure their vehicles are secure.”

Mr Davey said there had also been a high number of shed burglaries in the district in recent weeks.

He said: “It is going to get more common when spring comes because they can get rid of strimmers and the like more easily.

“People need to make sure they have got a good £10 lock, which can save them hundreds of pounds.”
