Building work to move the fire service’s 999 control room to county headquarters is expected to be finished by the end of the year.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service is building a £9million call centre and training complex as part of a project to centralise its operations at its Kelvedon Park headquarters, off the A12 at Rivenhall End.

The 999 control room, currently in Hutton, and incident command training, which currently takes place in Basildon, will both move to Kelvedon Park upon the completion of the extension.

Construction, which began in November, will also see administrative and welfare areas built.

This phase of development, which is being carried out by Cambridgeshire based Farrans Construction, is due to be completed by Christmas.
