Supermarket chain Morrisons has bought 49 Blockbuster stores.

But it was unable to confirm if it will be taking on the film and computer game rental shops in Braintree, Witham or Halstead.

The company already has supermarkets in Braintree and Witham.

It plans to convert the Blockbuster shops it has bought from administrators Deloitte into Morrisons M convenience stores.

A Deloitte spokesman confirmed the Braintree, Witham and Halstead Blockbuster stores were not on its closure list.

If Braintree, Halsted and Witham Blockbuster stores had been available for Morrison's to buy, no doubt Braintree District Council would have stopped the transfer for fear of upsetting Tesco's
