Thieves broke into a newsagents and stole cigarettes and beer.

Police were called to the store, in Chelmer Road, Witham, just after 10.20pm on Tuesday, following reports of a break-in.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “Officers attended and discovered thieves had forced entry to the shop before stealing cigarettes and beer.

“Two suspects were seen running off in the direction of the railway bridge. The police helicopter attended and officers on the ground conducted a search of the area, but no suspects were located.

“Police enquiries are continuing. Anyone with information or who saw anything suspicious is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
