Braintree: Murder victim's sister speaks of relief at killer's death Braintree: Murder victim's sister speaks of relief at killer's death

A sister has described her relief that a double murderer, who died in hospital, is no longer a threat to her family.

Jeannette Chambers was told on Monday evening that David Oakes had died in hospital.

It is believed he died of natural causes.

Last May the 51-year-old was jailed for life for shooting dead Christine Chambers and their two-year-old daughter Shania in Bartram Avenue, Braintree, on June 6 2011.

In November the Court of Appeal upheld the ruling after Oakes was one of several inmates who argued life tariffs were incompatible with their human rights.

Ms Chambers said: “Knowing he is no more is such a relief, that has ended that chapter."
