A man who was friends with David Oakes for more than 45 years hopes his death will bring some closure.

Ian Flitt, 51, is also Christine Chambers ex-partner and the father to her 11-year-old daughter who fled for help the night her mother and sister were murdered.

He said: “To be honest, I think it is a good thing and will bring closure for all the families involved.

“It will help everyone to move on."
