Extra police officers are being brought in to tackle a spate of burglaries across Braintree and Witham.

Police have said Witham in particular has been badly hit with break-ins, which are mostly happening between 9am and 9pm.

Sergeant Dave Wright said the extra officers are being directed to specific areas to try and disrupt further break-ins.

On February 6 burglars threw a plant pot through the patio windows of a Powers Hall End home in Witham and stole laptops and jewellery.

On February 7 burglars smashed a window and ransacked a Coggeshall Road home in Braintree between 8am and 3pm.

On the same day a burglary was reported in Witham Road, Black Notley. A window had been smashed.

On February 8 the back doors of a Cressing Road home in Braintree were smashed and forced open. Laptops and jewellery were taken in the break in, which happened between 8.30am and 4pm.

On the same day in Maple Avenue, Braintree, there was an attempted break-in at about 8pm. The resident heard a couple of bangs and discovered jemmy marks around the front door the following morning.

Also on February 8 in Clairmont Close, Braintree, thieves tried to jemmy open a front door between 9pm and 9.30pm.

Overnight on February 10 would-be burglars tried to force their way into a home in Coldnailhurst Avenue, Braintree.
