A bomb disposal team were called to Braintree after a hand grenade was found. 

A man reported to police that he had found the grenade in the cellar of a house in Railway Street, Braintree, at about 10.20am on Saturday.

The explosive ordnance unit was called to remove the grenade. 

An Essex Police spokesman said the grenade was not viable as it was in two pieces.
