On television she has been a Grumpy Old Woman and a Loose Woman, but Jenny Eclair’s career started out on stage.

Having started out writing punk poetry and performing in a band, Jenny set her sights on becoming a serious actress in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and went to drama school.

A role in The Bill followed soon after, but her career failed to take off and Jenny instead turned to comedy, the “only other option going”.

She has since become a familiar-face on a wide range of television shows - a panellist on Loose Women, a developer of the Grumpy Old Women series on BBC Two and even a contestant on I’m A Celebrity..Get Me Out of Here in 2010.

Jenny Eclair: Eclairious comes to Braintree Arts Theatre, in Notley Road, on Saturday at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £17.50 each. Call 01376 556354 or visit braintreeartstheatre.com
