Volunteers have saved the day for a town carnival - but there is still doubt over the future of next year’s event.

Witham Carnival’s organising committee made a plea for help last October after nearly half its members stepped down.

Court manager Carly Victor said: “We only had three people from the public come forward.

“Ideally we needed more, but Witham Round Table has volunteered to supply up to 20 people to help with the marshalling of the road closures and man the gates to the Maldon Road park.

“We really need local group and businesses to get behind the carnival this year to make it bigger and better to help raise money for the local charities we are supporting."

Carnival day is July 13 and the selection evening for a queen and princesses is on April 20 at Maltings Academy.
