Witham: Leisure centre contractors hold open day

The company leading the project to build Witham’s new leisure centre have hailed a successful open day with locally-based suppliers.

Barr Construction, which was awarded the contract to build the centre in December, held an open day on Thursday.

More than 20 companies were represented at the all-day event at Rivenhall Hotel.

Barr Construction director Alex Hammond said: “The suppliers’ day went really well. We had a steady flow of interested people coming through the doors during the day and the hotel staff made sure everyone was looked after.

“There was a really positive response from local businesses and we’ve made contact with contractors covering a range of trades.

“We’re keen to work with local subcontractors wherever possible on our projects and we’d like to thank Braintree Council for supporting us to do this.”

Witham Leisure Centre, which will include a 25 metre swimming pool, a fitness suite and two dance studios, is expected to open in summer 2014.
