Braintree: Former cricketer steps in to help Paul Gascoigne

Presenter and ex-cricketer Ronnie Irani has intervened to ensure a troubled football star receives treatment in America.

Mr Irani, of Felsted, helped book flights and arrange treatment for Paul Gascoigne, who entered rehabilitation in the US on Monday.

The former Essex captain, who has worked with the footballer in the past, decided to help when he was contacted by Mr Gascoigne’s friend, the DJ Chris Evans.
