Witham: Cancer victim's benefits wrangle infuriates husband
4:00pm Friday 8th February 2013 in News
A father is furious after his breast cancer-suffering wife had her benefits halted for a second time until she could prove her illness.
Mother-of-three Caroline Grogan, of Yare Avenue, Witham, was diagnosed with breast cancer about 18 months ago and underwent surgery and reconstruction, followed by two months of intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
But husband Marc is furious after the 35-year-old, who has raised hundreds of pounds for charity since her diagnosis, had her benefits stopped by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) for a second successive year.
He said: “We’ve had to go through all this rigmarole for nothing really – to get what she deserves.”
