Noisy boy racers have again been accused of making life a misery for sleep-deprived residents.

Angry neighbours in the Mill Park Drive area of Braintree have complained for years about petrolheads congregating on the other side of the railway line in the Braintree Freeport car park, keeping them awake into the early hours.

But some residents fear a “second wave” are now on the scene and the situation is spiralling out of control.

More than 100 cars packed into the car park on Friday night as part of an unauthorised rally organised through Facebook by Witham Car Cruisers.

Defiant Tom Parker, 23, of Cressing Road, Braintree, claimed he and his friends always tried to keep noise to a minimum.

He said: “I just think we get picked on because they think it’s antisocial but really it’s just like any other social club.”
