Braintree: 'Boy racers' spark further resident unrest

Braintree and Witham Times: Braintree: 'Boy racers' spark further resident unrest Braintree: 'Boy racers' spark further resident unrest

Noisy boy racers have again been accused of making life a misery for sleep-deprived residents.

Angry neighbours in the Mill Park Drive area of Braintree have complained for years about petrolheads congregating on the other side of the railway line in the Braintree Freeport car park, keeping them awake into the early hours.

But some residents fear a “second wave” are now on the scene and the situation is spiralling out of control.

More than 100 cars packed into the car park on Friday night as part of an unauthorised rally organised through Facebook by Witham Car Cruisers.

Defiant Tom Parker, 23, of Cressing Road, Braintree, claimed he and his friends always tried to keep noise to a minimum.

He said: “I just think we get picked on because they think it’s antisocial but really it’s just like any other social club.”

It is hard because as long as they aren't causing a disturbance there is no harm in it. Once they make loud noises and are engaging in illegal activities and dangerous driving then fair enough. I regularly see the police go round there checking on everything, so I can't really understand the complaints. Unless this recent massive gathering did cause a noise disturbance? What I really don't understand though is how they can be classed as "boy racers" if they are sitting in a car park? They aren't exactly racing are they?

Millennium way traffic lights that's where nearly every driver seems to become an aggressive boy racer, it makes me laugh every time!

I have to say I live on cressing road and I am quite frankly sick to the back teeth of these young boy racers driving....sorry, speeding!.. up and down cressing road at night like maniacs. They alter their exhausts so they make a total row which I believe, is illegal? When is this going to stop, after countless accidents when is the road lay out going to change to stop these immature chavs from breaking the law? kind request kids get a life, go home and instead of speeding like fools around Braintree read up on the Highway Code!

Do you think it's a bit weird these kids are sitting in a car park late at night though. If that was my son or daughter I would be furious, what's the point in sitting in car park late at night? I'm 34 and can safely say I wasn't hanging around car parks at that age. Just don't see the point.
