Witham: Man arrested following caravan theft
A man has been arrested on suspicion of theft after a caravan was stolen in Witham.
Police were called at about 3.20pm last Friday with reports that a £9,000 caravan was being stolen in Hatfield Road.
Officers were given details of a silver Mercedes vehicle which was towing the caravan along the A12 towards Chelmsford.
A search of the area was conducted, including the use of the police helicopter, and a vehicle was stopped on Essex Yeomanry Way in Chelmsford, near the Army and Navy roundabout.
A 66-year-old man from south east London was arrested on suspicion of theft and later bailed until April 2 while inquiries continue.
Police also received reports that two men fled from the vehicle when it pulled into a layby in Hatfield Peverel.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101.
