Braintree: Villagers go back to the future as completion of Guildhall project looms
Finchingfield went back to the future over the weekend as restoration work on the Guildhall was showcased.
Villagers were invited to visit Finchingfield Village Hall, in Bridge Street, on Saturday and Sunday to have a peek at what the grand 15th century building will look like upon completion of an ongoing £1.8million project to restore it.
Videos and photos of the work, which should be finished by the spring, were displayed.
The event also provided the opportunity for people to come forward with their own photos and memories of Finchingfield for inclusion in the village archive, which will be housed on the ground floor of the building.
Finchingfield Guildhall Trust trustee Jackie Bargman was delighted with the turnout and the progress being made with the project.
She said: “We are hoping to finish in the spring, building works are on schedule and they’re on the fitting out stages really.
“It’s absolutely stunning - far, far more wonderful than any of us imagined in our wildest dreams.”
