Witham: Police issue car keys warning after van theft
Police are warning motorists to keep keys out of sight in their homes after a £25,000 van was stolen.
The silver Volkswagen Transporter was taken from outside a house in Western Close, Silver End, between 1.30pm and 3.30pm last Friday.
Thieves are believed to have taken the keys, as well as £2,000 of business-related items, from inside the house before stealing the van.
Inspector Paul Davey said organised gangs often operated in that way.
He warned: “Don’t leave the keys on view from outside, especially if people have got fairly expensive, modern cars.
“The easiest way thieves can nick vehicles these days is by taking the keys, so put them where they’re not visible.”
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call police on 101.
