HARLOW TOWN 2 WITHAM TOWN 2
Ryman League division one north
Their draw at Barrows Farm means Witham Town have now only had one defeat in their last nine Ryman League division one north games, but they will be kicking themselves after surrendering a two-goal lead in the second half.
Witham scored twice in three minutes early in the first half to give the hosts a mountain to climb.
On 14 minutes a free-kick on the right by James Stevens was met by Tom Devaux, who ghosted in completely unmarked at the far post to head past Hawks keeper Bert Bossu.
And it was 2-0 on 16 minutes with the goal of the night.
A mistake by Hawks centre-half Michael Akande was latched on to by Paul White and he slipped the ball through to Emeka Onwubiko.
The Witham striker then flicked the ball on his left to where Lewis Godbold was waiting to hit a sensational strike from 25 yards out which flew past Bossu and into the top left corner.
However, Piers Wixon, playing his first game for over a month after a hamstring injury, gave Harlow hope with a goal on the hour.
Bossu’s long clearance was neatly flicked on to Wixon, who charged through a hole in the Witham defence before finished well into the bottom left corner from just outside the box with a powerful strike.
It was all-square on 69 minutes after Mitchell Das’ long cross from the left went right across the box and eventually found Ben Hart.
The young Harlow winger showed composure before smashing a shot from 12 yards out across goal and into the same corner that Wixon found to make sure it was a case of two points dropped for Witham.
Witham stayed ninth in the division one north table and are now due to host second-placed Grays Athletic at Spa Road on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
