Witham: Level crossing tragedy leads to renewed safety calls
Calls for a new bridge over a busy railway line have intensified after a factory worker was killed by a train on a level crossing.
Michal Majzner, 30, died after being hit by a train at the Motts Lane crossing in Witham on Thursday evening.
British Transport Police are still investigating the circumstances of his death, but it is widely believed to have been a tragic accident.
Network Rail said the warning systems were checked and found to be in “full working order”.
The crossing had already been earmarked for closure, with a replacement bridge planned, but calls have now been made for that work to be fast-tracked.
