Sainsbury's has offered cash to revamp a museum, in exchange for being given planning permission to build a new superstore.
The retailer has yet to find out if Braintree Council will approve its plans for the store on the Broomhills Industrial Estate off Rayne Road, Braintree.
However, it has confirmed it will pay £120,000 towards improvements at Braintree District Museum, including part funding a gated walkway through the middle of the building to take shoppers to the existing Sainsbury’s store in Tofts Walk.
A corridor would have to be demolished to make way for the cut through between Manor Street and School Lane.
