Braintree: Sainsbury's to help museum if store given go ahead

Braintree and Witham Times: Braintree: Sainsbury's to help museum if store given go ahead Braintree: Sainsbury's to help museum if store given go ahead

Sainsbury's has offered cash to revamp a museum, in exchange for being given planning permission to build a new superstore.

The retailer has yet to find out if Braintree Council will approve its plans for the store on the Broomhills Industrial Estate off Rayne Road, Braintree.

However, it has confirmed it will pay £120,000 towards improvements at Braintree District Museum, including part funding a gated walkway through the middle of the building to take shoppers to the existing Sainsbury’s store in Tofts Walk.

A corridor would have to be demolished to make way for the cut through between Manor Street and School Lane.

But they have published a picture with the word 'Sainsburys' on it.

That's about par for the course when it comes to inspirational photographs in this particular forum.

Still, at least they got the right name.

I wouldn't have been surprised if they had stuck up a picture of 'Luckin Smiths' or maybe even 'Bowtels'.

Ah, now they were the days of real Grocers Shops in Braintree.

Are you old enough to remember the aroma emanating from the Coffee Bean Roasting Machine in Bowtel's window in Bank Street? Heavenly!

It's all gone now. Pte Frazer was right. I'm afraid we're all doooomed!
