Braintree district: Drivers are being forced to pay more at the pumps Braintree district: Drivers are being forced to pay more at the pumps

Drivers are being forced to pay more at Braintree pumps than nearby towns.

On Friday petrol and diesel in Braintree chains were about three pence per litre dearer than at stations in Boreham, Chelmsford and Marks Tey.

Most major retailers, who have stations in numerous areas, have said they price petrol depending on local competition.

Blake Lincoln, 31, of Braintree said: “Ipswich and Chelmsford are always much cheaper than Braintree.

“I'm convinced that the petrol stations are keeping the price artificially high.

“I never buy fuel in Braintree unless I really have to but many people don't get much choice as they don't travel.

“As for driving somewhere just because the fuel is cheaper it's a false economy as you spend the money you save by driving.

“Again a fact I'm sure the petrol stations in Braintree are well aware of.”

That is because ASDA is based in Chelmsford and Colchester and their low prices keeps the other fuel providers in check.

I hope they build one up in Freeport sooner rather than later.
