Residents have petitioned against more homes being built near Carraways
A water company has apologised after raw sewage backed up into residents’ toilets and gardens.
Homeowners in Carraways, Witham, have complained of frequent problems and unpleasant smells near their properties.
It is feared a proposed development of 94 homes of the nearby Sunday market site in Maldon Road could put a further strain on the sewage system.
The most recent major incident of sewage backing up was on Boxing Day - Anglian Water has blamed heavy rain and pipe blockages.
