Braintree district narrowly misses out on Tour de France
Braintree and Witham have narrowly missed out on hosting the Tour de France, but cycling fans will not have far to travel if they want a glimpse of the famous race.
The start of the 2014 race will be held in Britain, with racers entering Essex during a stage travelling from Cambridge to London.
Although the route will not enter Braintree district, riders including British stars Sir Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish will be passing through neighbouring Uttlesford.
After setting off from Cambridge on Monday, July 7, the race will pass along roads near Saffron Walden, Thaxted, Dunmow and Takeley.
