Braintree: Hope for Great Leighs Racecourse re-opening within months

A jobs boost could be in store if a racecourse gets the go-ahead for building work that could see the venue re-open as soon as April.

The owners of Great Leighs Racecourse are awaiting rulings of applications for floodlighting and a new hospitality complex.

If the application is successful, the first event at the re-opened track could take place as soon as April.

A planning application to use the course’s existing floodlights would allow the lights to be used 365 days a year until 10.30pm each night.

But the course owners insist the extended hours are necessary for flexibility to meet fixture requirements.
