The A120 has claimed more lives than any other road in the district, according to crash map figures.

An online map, using Department for Transport data, shows there were 35 fatal collisions between 2005 and 2011 in Braintree and Witham - eight of these were on the A120.

The year 2006 saw the highest number of deaths on the district’s roads with seven, while there six in 2005, two in 2008 and four in each of the other years.

Ten of the fatal collisions involved motorcycles, in another a cyclist was killed on the A12 and in three of the collisions a child was hurt.

Millie Sullivan, 77, of Tilkey Road, Coggeshall, successfully campaigned for safety improvements to the Earls Colne junction of the A120 in 2010.

She believes a completely new road straight across country, linking the A120 from the other side of Braintree to the A12 should be built.
