AN animal rescue centre is appealing for help after being overrun ... by baby hedgehogs.

More than 120 of the spiny mammals have turned up at Hedgehog Haven.

The Frinton-based centre is run by husband and wife team Christian and Christine Boelrijk.

"At one point we had 72 hedgehogs in our home," said Christine.

"It's been a very bad year for all wildlife, but particularly hedgehogs.

"Normally we have enough fosterers to look after them over winter but we've run out and desperately need more people in the Frinton, Walton, Thorpe and Kirby area."

The centre takes hedgehogs from all over Tendring.

One patient even came from as far away as Kent.

Christine said: "Hedgehogs are still coming in. We had one on Christmas Eve and one on Boxing Day, but we did have Christmas Day off!"
