Witham: Recycling firm boss still going strong at 80

Age is certainly no barrier for this remarkable Witham businessman.

Despite turning 80, Bob Short, managing director of Essex Reclamation recycling firm, continues to work 45 hours a week and insists he has no plans for retirement just yet.

Mr Short founded the company in 1954 and has overseen its transformation from a one-man-band collecting animal feed sacks and rabbit skins to a thriving business that recycles 50,000 tonnes of rubbish per year and employs more than 30 people.

The business moved to its Perry Road site in Witham upon expansion in 1995.
