Witham: Repairs due after road flooded for two weeks

Engineers have been investigating why a road has been flooded since Christmas.

The pond beside Gershwin Boulevard, Witham, burst its banks on the weekend of December 22 and has been shut since December 27.

However, drivers still got stuck trying to drive through, despite the warnings, and residents had to help them out.

Anglian Water engineers have identified the problem and will be pumping out the water to make the repair.

It hasn't ceased to amaze me how many drivers have ignored the 'road closed ahead' signs and driven through this water regardless, some of which have caused considerable damage to their cars! Hopefully the situation will be resolved soon, it is rather interesting trying to negotiate Hawkes Road with all its double parked cars on a 'normal' day, let alone when there is a diversion in place and the increased traffic that goes with it!!

Oh, and this is a 'balancing' pond, taking rain water from the housing estate and was put in place by the developers. I do hope the engineers from Anglian Water are able to prevent this happening again as this isn't the first time the pond has flooded and caused problems on Gershwin Boulevard.

The road flooded on Christmas Eve, but the road closed signs didn't go up until Boxing Day or the day after.

I believe that it floods when the pumps fail in the pumping station the other side of the road from the pond. They then have to use tankers to pump the water away to be able to access them pumps for repair.
