Canadian comedian Katherine Ryan is making her presence known on this side of the pond.

Now based in the UK, the 31-year-old stand-up is a recognisable face to viewers of TV panel shows.

Among her appearances in the past year have been guest slots on Mock the Week, 8 Out Of 10 Cats and Never Mind The Buzzcocks.

She has also put her comic talents to good use as an actress, appearing in the part-improvised Channel 4 sitcom Campus.

Katherine’s decision to move to the UK paid off almost instantly as she won the prestigious Funny Women talent competition in 2008.

The competition, which counts Sarah Millican and Andi Osho among its past entrants, was set up with the intention of rewarding female talent in a male-dominated industry.

Katherine will be compere for the evening as Funhouse Comedy returns to Braintree on Thursday evening.

She will be joined by fellow Canadian, Wes Zaharuk, who will be headlining the night.

Zany performer Wes uses off-beat comedy props such as vacuum cleaners, tape and whips - audiences can expect the unexpected.

The line-up is completed by the lively Gerry K and sharp witted Luke Graves.

Funhouse Comedy comes to Braintree Arts Theatre, Notley Road, Braintree, on Thursday evening.

Doors open at 7.15pm, with the show starting at 8pm. Tickets are £10 in advance or £12 on the door.

Visitors can take advantage of a three for two offer - buy two tickets for Funhouse Comedy and get a third one free.
