An Indian restaurant faces a fine of up to £20,000 after two illegal workers were found in an immigration raid.

Officers from the UK Border Agency visited Lakeview Indian Restaurant, in Church Road, Gosfield, last Tuesday at 12.30pm.

The officers, acting on intelligence, did checks which revealed two members of staff were immigration offenders from Bangladesh.

A 22-year-old man was found to be working in breach of his visa conditions, and a 39-year-old man had overstayed his visa.

The younger worker was taken into UK Border Agency detention pending his removal from the country.

The 39-year-old, meanwhile, has been released on immigration bail and must report regularly to the UK Border Agency while work continues to organise his removal.

Lakeview Indian Restaurant faces a fine of up to £10,000 per illegal worker unless it can prove appropriate pre-employment checks were carried out on the employees.
