Organisers have had to cancel a synthetic ice rink this weekend after a generator stopped working.

Paul McCain, of company Portarink, was due to set up the rink at Braintree and Bocking Public Gardens from today.

However, it will now not open until Monday.

George Canvin, treasurer for the gardens trust, said: “We are dreadfully disappointed. We need lights but apparently the generator blew up when they switched it on last night.”

Repairers cannot get out to fix the hired generator until Monday at the earliest.

Mr Canvin said although it was very upsetting, it was out of the control of Mr McCain and the trustees.

The rink is due to open every day from Monday until January 13, except Christmas Day.

Opening times will be Monday to Friday 11am to 9.30pm and weekends 10am to 10pm.
