Braintree: Young dad's first aid business inspired by baby daughter

Braintree and Witham Times: Steven Hardy, Luci-Mae Murden and their daughter Amelia-Rose Steven Hardy, Luci-Mae Murden and their daughter Amelia-Rose

A young dad with a severely disabled daughter hopes to teach parents and teachers about first aid through his new business venture.

Steven Hardy, 20, is the first person in Essex, Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, Kent and the Isle of Wight to receive a government StartUp loan and mentoring through delivery partner, Let's Do Business Group.

The scheme, backed by entrepreneur James Caan, gives 18 to 24-year-olds loans of up to £2,500 to start new companies.

Steven, of Warley Close, Braintree, will focus on training young people, parents, youth and community groups and businesses.

This is obviously a story with a deeply moving human element.

Where however is the link between the implication in the title that Baby Amelia-Rose’s situation is possibly related to some aspect of first aid - or perhaps the absence of adequate first aid - and Dad’s commendable inspiration to commit himself to improving people’s competence in the subject?

There appears to be something very significant missing from the report.

I fear that the B&W Times may not have done Steven Hardy full justice with this story.
