Essex County Council is urging residents to travel with extra caution as icy conditions are expected to set in from tonight.

Sixty gritting lorries are on standby as temperatures are expected to fall below zero.

Roads could be hazardous due to the heavy rainfall over the past few days, which has led to flooding and surface water in some parts.

Each lorry has been fitted with a GPS tracker so their movements can be recorded live at www.essex.gov.uk/highways. The council said salt supplies back at full capacity.
