A burglar jumped out of a cupboard and threatened to stab a homeowner for the sake of £30.

The thug burst out of his hiding place after Derek Wilson, 58, was woken up by Jack Russell, Jessie, growling and barking.

Mr Wilson of Long Acres, Braintree, said: "I thought she wanted to go outside so I took her downstairs.

"That was when I saw the front door open and all the lights on.

"I went in to the dining room and the man just jumped out the cupboard."
