A champion dancer could have been killed after she was struck by a passing car and knocked unconscious.
Hannah Kemp, 18, was walking on the pavement on Skitts Hill, Braintree, when her bag strap was caught by the wing mirror.
She was spun around and hit her head on the ground, but the driver failed to stop and police are appealing for information.
Hannah, of Lister Road, Braintree, faced a terrifying wait in hospital before she regained feeling in her feet.
