Conservation areas in Braintree and Witham remain on a national register of heritage at risk.

English Heritage said conservation areas in Braintree town centre and Bradford Street were described as in poor condition and deteriorating.

Those in Silver End and Witham town centre also remained on the Heritage At Risk Register list.

A newcomer is the Grade II listed St James Church in The Street, Great Saling.

And Finchingfield Guildhall, which was built in around 1500, remains on the list but a £1.6million restoration project is well underway to repair the timber framed building for public use.

The ice house at Braxted Park, Great Braxted, was removed from this year’s register after it was rescued from deterioration.
