Spot the bus stop.

Passengers claim they have complained numerous times for more than a year about the overgrown bushes hiding the stop in Western Road, Silver End.

An Essex County Council spokesman said: “Essex highways has formally written to the landowner on several occasions to request that they maintain the vegetation around the bus stop.

“We are currently awaiting a response to the letters and will take enforcement measures if required.”

I understood under common law if overhanging branches are obstructing your property(In this case the Highway ) Then you can cut down the offending matter and deposit the residue back on the landowners land.
Surprised Cllr Abbot/Wright along with Highways have not taken matters in to their own hands or is this publicity in the B&W much better for them?
Can we expect to see this in James election address next year?

Hello brain1

We try to get as much done locally as we can in the parishes because for the last several years Essex Highways have been so slow to act on requests.

In this case this is a County Highways bus stop on a County Highways pavement and as you rightly say they have the ability to do this work themselves - and they could also recharge the landowner.

County Highways have a Ranger service and we are told that they can deal with cutting back vegetation around signs on highway land.

So in all respects this was clearly a County Highways job and despite many months of requesting them to action it they had not done so. Passengers had barely any path left to stand on next to a busy and fast road.

We are pleased that the Braintree and Witham Times picked up on the story as it might help to get Highways to get on and deal with the job which they have neglected for so long.
