Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a swan was killed in Chelmsford.

Between about 00.01am and 1.45pm on Tuesday, a swan was killed and left in undergrowth near The Meadows Shopping Centre.

Investigating officer, Pc Nathan Williamson, said: "Killing a swan and leaving it by a riverbank is a horrible thing to do.

"The killing of swans is rare in Essex but it is still completely unacceptable."

Anyone with information about the crime or who saw any suspicious behaviour in the area is urged call Essex Police on 101.
